At four o'clock, Superintendent Dr. Aris Thorne convened an emergency executive meeting in the district media center, ordering the playback of the video recording onto the main projection screen.
The members of the school board sat in leather swivel chairs, watching Patricia Dalton appear on the high-definition monitor.
On screen, Mrs. Dalton sat perfectly upright in a tailored gray blazer, her hands folded neatly on a polished conference desk.
Superintendent Morris’s recorded voice asked:

The recorded Mrs. Dalton smiled—a sharp, confident, patronizing smirk that chilled the room.
*‘Walter, the modern parent operates from an emotional deficit,’* she answered smoothly on the tape. *‘They mistake boundary enforcement for cruelty. When a student attempts to weaponize domestic fragility or personal illness to avoid academic accountability, the effective administrator must maintain institutional supremacy. If you give an inch to parent intervention, the classroom descends into anarchy.’*
Superintendent Thorne raised his remote and froze the frame on her smiling face.
He turned toward the board members, his expression carved from stone.
"This is the philosophy we were preparing to endorse for every elementary and middle school in this township," Thorne said, his voice ringing with profound shame. "She was not hiding her disdain for students and parents; she was bragging about it to our central staff."
Board President Helen Ramirez leaned forward, her face flushed with outrage.
