The silence in the boardroom was so profound that the hum of the air conditioner sounded like a roar.
Board members stared in utter shock at the genetic certificate projected on the screen.
Richard Kensington swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he gripped his gold pen.
"A child survived... that’s wonderful, Damon, but what does that have to do with my family?"
"It has to do with the black limousine registered to Kensington Logistics that was crushed in a private scrap yard forty-eight hours after the crash," Arthur Vance announced from the lectern.
Arthur distributed bank wire transcripts to every seat.
"And it has to do with the seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars wired to an offshore account in Belize that exact same morning, signed personally by Richard Kensington."
Richard stood up abruptly, knocking his leather armchair backward against the wall.
"This is slander! These are fabricated records!"
"These are certified bank subpoenas signed by federal magistrate Harrison at six this morning," Damon replied with icy precision.
Damon stepped around the table, towering over the shaking man.
"You ran my wife off that cliff because she had evidence of your embezzlement, Richard."
"And last night, your wife stood over my surviving child and told her she didn't deserve food in her own home."
Victoria began to tremble violently, clutching her husband’s arm.
"Damon, please... we didn't know... it was an accident..."
Damon turned his gaze to the rest of the board.
"All those in favor of immediately expelling Richard and Victoria Kensington from the Sterling Foundation, stripping all voting equity, and initiating federal criminal referrals, signify by raising your hands."
Every single hand at the table shot upward without hesitation.
The boardroom double doors opened, and four armed federal marshals stepped into the room.
"Richard Kensington, Victoria Kensington," the lead marshal declared. "You are under arrest for conspiracy, embezzlement, and attempted vehicular manslaughter."
As the steel handcuffs clicked around their wrists, Victoria’s arrogant facade completely collapsed into hysterical sobs.
Damon watched them being led away, his face an unreadable mask of justice fulfilled.
