Chapter 20

Author:

Evening fell softly over the Dallas estate.

The golden Texas sunset washed through the nursery windows, painting the ceiling in warm shades of amber and rose.

Noah was asleep in his crib, curled up with his favorite plush bear, his soft breathing steady and peaceful.

No cries of terror.

No shadows in the doorway.

Only safety.

Julian and I stood side by side on the nursery balcony, watching the breeze sweep across the manicured grounds below.

The front gates were manned by Marcus’s trusted team.

The quiet felt earned.

Julian turned to me, holding a small velvet box in his hands.

I caught my breath.

“Rachel,” he said, his voice quiet, steady, and rich with emotion.

“Two years ago, this house was filled with people who traded love for power.”

“They thought everything had a price.”

He opened the box, revealing an antique platinum ring set with a simple, brilliant diamond.

“You taught me what love actually looks like.”

“You didn't just save Noah’s life that afternoon.”

“You saved mine.”

He looked into my eyes, the scar on his forehead matching the faint mark near my hairline—our shared badges from the battle we had survived together.

“Will you stay with us?” Julian asked.

“Not as a guardian on a legal document.”

“As my wife.”

“As Noah’s mother.”

Tears blurred my vision, warm and sweet.

I looked back into the quiet nursery where my little boy lay sleeping safely in his bed.

Then I looked at the man who had stood beside me through every storm.

“Yes, Julian,” I whispered.

He slipped the ring onto my finger, pulling me into his arms under the Dallas sky.

I remembered the cold fear of that afternoon.

The heated metal.

Vanessa's poisonous screams.

The four words that had torn down a kingdom of lies: *Check the nursery camera.*

The camera had captured the malice that tried to take everything away.

Now, looking into the room full of warmth, peace, and laughter, it would only ever record one thing:

A family that could never be broken again.
